Now in its fifteenth fabulous year, the Summer School in Film making is part of the University of Melbourne's Cinema Studies Program and offers intensive teaching in all aspects of film production. Each day or session is taught by Australia's leading film industry practitioners in the their area of expertise.

The course. open to aspiring filmmakers of any age, is designed to cover the essential skills, basic knowledge and industry insight needed to make films, knowledge that would normally require years of experience to acquire, and will equip participants with the confidence, knowledge and skills to start a career in film or television and translate their own ideas and visions to the screen.

More exciting than a film festival, more real than film itself, you will begin to understand the enormous skill and energy that goes into that smoothly finished product on the screen.

The teaching course "From Script to Screen", can be taken in full (19 days), in part (15 days) or as an introductory course (10 days) or participants can choose their own days and make up their own course/s.

You can further enhance your learning by taking the totally hands-on "Make A Film" course held in conjunction with "Script to Screen" with step-by-step tuition and expert guidance as you learn, and leave the course with your own short film on DVD.

Extra courses at the 2009 summer school are the:"2 day Documentary course", the" 5 day Steadicam Intensive", (next available in Jan 2010) the only steadicam course in the southern hemisphere, and, to encourage new writers, we are offering a 4 day "Writer's Block" of specialist writing days taught by some of our best screenwriters at a special discount price.
